For all of you who aren’t familiar with it, Victor and Valentino is an American animated television series that was created by Diego Molano for Cartoon Network. Diego was a former worker for two other Cartoon Network shows: the infamous Powerpuff Girls for which he served as writer/storyboard artist, and OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes for which he did background design. He was also a former background layout artist on Adult Swim’s China, IL and Black Dynamite. Victor and Valentino is produced by Cartoon Network Studios.

The series actually originated as a college thesis by Molano and at the time, it was known as High Noon in Mexicobefore years of hanging onto the idea made it into Victor and Valentino. This is a latinoamerican folk-themed show. The pilot episode premiered directly on the channel on 29th of October in 2016 (two days before their local Day of the Dead). Since then it has been greenlit for a full TV series, which premiered on 30th of March in 2019 in the United States as well as in Latin America.
When it comes to the plot, it is centered in the small quiet town of Monte Macabre where two completely opposite half-brothers search around the town for adventure. On their way, they find strange and supernatural happenings with the help of their supernatural grandmother. Victor “Vic” Calavera is voiced by Diego Molano himself. He is Valentino’s half-brother who gets easily bored. He likes playing games and being mischievous, but can be rather very uncoordinated. He would rather look cool instead of follow directions. However, he strongly cares about Valentino. Additionally, Victor is really bad at spelling, he prefers being dirty and is easily persuaded into committing certain acts. Valentino “Val” was voiced by Rico Rodriguez in the pilot, and by Sean-Ryan Petersen in the series. This brother is more cautious and likes taking in the smaller things in life. He has better coordination than Victor and is brighter, but still looks out for him and cares for his well being. He is overweight, but seems pretty nimble at times and is very familiar with Mexican culture and its history.

Grandma Chata was voiced by Carla Tassara in pilot and by Laura Patalano in the Serie. She is the boys’ grandmother who they stay with in Monte Macabre for the summer. She appears to be blind, is stern, but kind. Charlene who is voiced by Cristina Milizia is a strange and dark little girl who often hangs out with Vic and Val. She has connections to the supernatural and loves using them on the brothers. She has a crush on Victor and takes every chance she can get to somehow be involved with whatever he is doing. Pineapple is voiced by Diego Molano. He is a large lumbering monosyllabic boy who is actually Charlene’s brother. He acts as a stooge for her and despite his intimidating appearance is someone who likes dancing and be sympathetic.

Maria Teresa (voiced by Frankie Quiñones) is Charlene and Pinapple’s mean spirited grandmother and the rival of Chata’s. She has her own taco establishment. Julio “Don” Jalapeño is voiced by Jason Hightower and is the local seller of jalapeños who gets caught in Vic and Val’s antics and is well versed in Mexican folklore and cryptids. He seems to be attracted to Grandma Chata and sweats a lot in her presence. Xochi Jalapeño (voiced by Cristina Vee) is Don Jalapeño’s teenage daughter who tends to the supernatural plants in the back of the store. She can be intimidating and takes Salsa dancing. Guillermo voiced by Tom Kenny is a short, pale, white haired boy who talks in the third person and in a guttural low voice. Despite his creepy and unusual appearance, he is friendly. He has a habit of facing the opposite direction.
