Courage the Cowardly Dog is American animated television show with a mixture of horror and comedy.
It was created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network and the eighth of the Cartoon Cartoons. Dilworth’s own animation studio called Stretch Films produced this show , together with Cartoon Network Studios.
Courage the Cowardly Dog is about a pink anthropomorphic dog who lives with a couple of elders in the middle of Nowhere. Every episodes revolves around some bizarre and disturbing situation that the main characters are thrown into. Those situations mostly include some paranormal and supernatural events. This gives a show both dark and humor atmosphere. The show premiered on 12th of November in 1999 and it ended on 22nd of November in 2002. It had four seasons in total with 13 episodes in each one of them. The series was nominated for three Golden Reel Awards and one Annie Award. Strong cult followed this show and it received critical acclaim as well. Many merchandise was available which includes toys, clothing and home media releases.

Courage the Cowardly Dog follows Courage who is voiced by Marty Grabstein. He is a pink dog who is very easy to scare. When he was just a puppy, his parents were sent into outer space by a insane veterinarian so he became abandoned. In the show, he lives in a farmhouse with a connected garage near the fictional town of Nowhere, Kansas with Muriel Bagge who is voiced by Thea White and her husband Eustace Bagge who was voiced by Lionel Wilson and Arthur Anderson. Muriel is a friendly, sweet-natured Scottish woman, and Eustace Bagge is a grumpy, greedy farmer who mistreats Courage most of the time out of jealousy and often refers to him as “stupid dog.” Muriel found Courage in an alleyway and took him in as her own.
Courage, Muriel, and Eustace encounter monsters, aliens, demons, crazy scientists, zombies and other such perils from myths and legends all the time. Although most of these appear as hostile, some of them turn out to be friendly and are simply suffering from something.

Courage has the task of protecting his owners. Although Courage is occasionally aided with that task, the full extent of his efforts is usually performed unbeknownst to Muriel and Eustace. Ironically, given his name, Courage is a genuine coward but still goes to great lengths to protect his owners.

There are a many recurring characters in the show’s cast, including Courage’s sarcastic, sentient computer voiced by Simon Prebble; the family physician Dr. Vindaloo voiced by Paul Schoeffler; a fortune-telling chihuahua called Shirley the Medium voiced by Mary Testa; Eustace’s mother “Ma” (Billie Lou Watt); and villains Katz and Le Quack who are both voiced by Schoeffler.
